Your boot wasbuilt forsomeone else's foot.

KickVision is developing boots shaped around the player's foot. Trials are running in Berlin now.

The Problem

How a standard boot affects your foot.

Mass-produced boots are built around one average foot shape. If yours differs, you feel it every session.

33%One in three football players has flat feet.Mahratta et al., 2021
94%Players believe boots contribute to injuries, and 63% were never advised to change them.Lower Limb Injuries and Football Boots, 2024
86%Football injuries affect the lower extremity.Hawkins and Fuller, Premier League data

Natural toe splay against a narrow toe box, and the three arch types.

Toe box compression

Narrow lasts restrict toe splay on push-off and cause blisters.

Flat feet and overpronation

The arch collapses inward under load, and neutral midsoles do not help.

Heel counter mismatch

Narrow heels slip and blister. Wide heels are compressed.

High arches and supination

Poor shock absorption and higher lateral ankle risk over a full match.

The Solution

A boot built around your foot. Not the other way around.

The best answer is a personalized fit, for men and for women: industry-standard manufacturing systems, plus our own modifications shaped around each player's foot.

82%Of 350 women footballers surveyed across Europe reported regular discomfort in boots built on a generic male foot. A personalized fit works for any foot.European Club Association research, Dr Katrine Kryger, St Mary's University
ProsThere is a reason professional footballers get their feet measured and their own boots built. Research also shows arch-support insoles reduce peak pressure under the heel and forefoot and shift load toward the midfoot.Liverpool FC and adidas; Jor et al., systematic review and meta-analysis of foot orthoses
400Military trainees took part in a randomised trial in which customised orthoses reduced overuse lower limb injuries.Franklyn-Miller et al., American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011

The Vision

We want to build a boot shaped to every individual foot. We are in the early stages, and we are honest about where we are now versus where we plan to go. We aim to make boots so everyone, regardless of their foot condition, can enjoy the beautiful game.

Active now

Phase 1: Manual prototype testing

We measure players' feet, modify existing boots and test the results over real training sessions.

Next

Phase 2: Scanning and insole design

A repeatable process from foot scan to custom, 3D-printed insole and boot modification.

Planned

Phase 3: Injury and performance

Using trial data to learn which modifications reduce injury risk and improve performance.

Planned

Phase 4: Full manufacturing

A complete system from foot scan to finished personalised boot, without compromising quality.

Trial data #01

From too tight to comfortable.

A player with a wide foot took part. The boot was an Adidas Copa Pure 2 League FG, bought specifically for the trial. It measured about 8 cm at its widest point. The player's foot measured about 10 cm.

Foot, widest point 10 cm Boot, widest point 8 cm Boot is 2 cm narrower than the foot
  1. IntakeEvery question was asked first, to understand what the player was dealing with.
  2. AnalysisThe player's foot was analysed and measured.
  3. Sessions 1 and 2The player tried the boot, and the modification was iterated in between.
  4. Session 3The final modified boot was handed over.

What was done

  • Heat was applied.
  • The toe box needed an aggressive expansion, so it was expanded significantly.
  • The heel structure was expanded only slightly, because too much would make the heel loose.
  • The insole was modified with a metatarsal pad and arch support.

What happened

The first try-on felt really tight. The next one was comfortable. The player felt a big relief.

What comes next

More trials with 3D printing involved, and more rigorous trials with more technology.

I am a Master's graduate in Industrial Engineering and International Management, based in Berlin. KickVision started with a problem I faced myself. I have flat feet, and when I looked for a solution, I found nothing. That is how KickVision came about.
